Independent Ink Technologies (IIT) is Australia's only completely independent ink technology laboratory and was formed in 1994 with the purpose of providing an ongoing stream of world class, locally derived technology to printing ink manufacturers, raw material vendors, paper suppliers, printers and the Graphic Arts industry in general. The company is totally committed to developing and harnessing technology to ensure the future viability of these industries.

INK MAKERS

IIT works closely with some of the world's largest ink makers:

• Coates DIC - quality assurance, raw material testing

• Sicpa Asia Pacific - product development in Sheetfed

• Micro Inks - product benchmarking, quality assurance

• Flint Ink (Australia) - product benchmarking, quality assurance

• Toka (Japan) - product comparisons

• Xsys Printing Systems (formerly BASF) - quality assurance

RAW MATERIAL VENDORS

IIT performs raw material evaluations, provides starting formulations - which ink makers understand, and conducts in-house training programs for major raw materials suppliers to the Graphic Arts industry:

• Cabot Corporation - carbon blacks

• American Gilsonite Company - fossil resins

• Nuplex - synthetic resins

• Ciba Specialty Pigments - classical pigments

Work is also conducted via local agents for: Shell - ink oils Haltermann - ink oils Eckart - metallic pastes Nuplex - resins and varnish

PAPER SUPPLIERS

IIT has developed a number of paper testing procedures which are not carried out by paper manufacturers, but rather focus on the printability of the paper and getting ink on to paper. These procedures allow a high degree of confidence in the way in which a particular paper will behave on press and in subsequent finishing operations. IIT works closely with:

IIT performs quality assurance on incoming inks, chemicals and papers and also offers on press technical service to a large number of printers in Australia:
